“Ask A Designer” Nursery Furniture Tool
Adapting Decorist’s Designer Advice service to integrate with buybuy Baby - helping those shopping for nursery furniture and looking for an interior designer’s recommendation. The old Design Q&A product was too open ended, and didn’t collect enough information from the client for the designer to make the right product recommendations. We designed a new guided question flow specific to the Baby nursery audience that would improve designers’ recommendations.

Creating Repeatable Question Components
When thinking through the types of questions we needed to ask our users it was helpful to think not just about the nursery furniture questions specifically, but also about “design advice” more broadly. This allowed me to create a set of components that we could use to easily create additional question flows going forward. The base components could be used to collect a customers preferences for any type of design advice - allowing us to quickly build additional “Ask A Designer” question flows, and also update preference questionnaires attached to some of our other services.

Outcomes
We needed time to collect more data to be able to report on the overall success (wether customers were happier with the product recommendations they got from this flow vs the past), but initial feedback was good. Customers found the flow easy to complete, and designers were happy to have more detailed information to go off of when responding to the customers. By laying this foundation we were also able to kick off discussions around how this structured data could be used to feed into automated recommendations and ML that could benefit both our designer community and our e-commerce partners.
